In an effort to facilitate "holistic" sustainable development and empowerment at grassroot, NIC has proposed the Smart Village project as part of its Tenth Plan (2002-07). The project envisions to develop and empower Indian villagers by making them part of knowledge society. To formulate the implementation strategy for the project, an on-line survey was conducted, based on which a Detailed Project Report has been submitted.
